Immersive technologies, such as VR, AR, and Web3, are reshaping the way we interact with the digital world. Yet, for many, these technologies feel abstract, highly technical, and even intimidating. Julia Šislerová is changing that narrative. As a strategist at Deloitte and founder of the Girls in Metaverse community, Julia plays a crucial role in connecting the technical and business sides of these innovations. She breaks down complex concepts into relatable insights that businesses, marketers, and everyday people can grasp and apply.
Her work is all about making immersive tech accessible and relevant; helping brands understand how to utilize these tools effectively while empowering individuals to become part of the rapidly evolving XR ecosystem.

📱 From Mobile Phones to Virtual Worlds: All About Julia's Path
Julia’s tech journey began in a place many of us can relate to: the mobile phone industry. Starting at T-Mobile, she progressed from IT assistant to project manager and ultimately to marketing roles focused on mobile web and applications. Back then, smartphones were still new, and many people struggled to understand their true potential.
“I helped explain to customers why a smartphone wasn’t just a ‘stupid brick’ but a gateway to a whole new digital world”, Julia recalls.
This role taught her an invaluable lesson: technology needs a story. People don’t just buy gadgets; they buy the experiences and solutions those gadgets enable.
This marketing and education foundation became critical when Julia shifted her focus to immersive technologies. She joined one of the Czech Republic’s first VR gaming rooms, a place where thousands tried VR and AR for the first time. Observing their reactions, she understood that onboarding is everything.
“People come with very different expectations and fears. The way you introduce them to immersive tech, how you guide them through that first experience, can make or break their entire perception of it”.
This insight has guided much of her work, emphasizing empathy and user experience in the adoption of technology.
Creating a Community for Women in XR
One stark reality Julia noticed early on was the lack of female presence in XR and immersive tech communities. “At every meetup or event, I was often the only woman in the room”, she says. That sparked a determination to change the status quo.
Julia founded Girls in Metaverse, a vibrant and growing community for women passionate about immersive technology, blockchain, AI, and related fields. The goal? To create a safe and supportive space where women can learn, share, and build careers in these emerging technologies.
“We’re not just about tech skills. It’s about connection, collaboration, and empowerment. Some girls join because they want to learn to program, while others want to stay updated on the latest trends. The diversity is what makes the community strong”.
Girls in Metaverse hosts workshops and networking meetups and even provides access to real projects and industry insiders. It’s a launchpad for women to get hands-on experience and visibility in an industry that desperately needs diverse voices.
Why Diversity Drives Innovation
Julia is a firm believer that diversity isn’t just a checkbox; it’s a business imperative. In her words, “We have roughly equal numbers of women and men at my company, and it makes a huge difference”.
Why? Because diverse teams bring different perspectives, challenge assumptions, and spark creativity. This leads to better decision-making and more innovative solutions, especially important in a field as new and evolving as XR.
“Different life experiences and ways of thinking help us see blind spots and come up with ideas no homogeneous group would”, Julia explains. “That’s a competitive advantage in tech and business”.
Her message is clear: Inclusion leads to excellence. It’s why empowering women—and all underrepresented groups—in tech isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s an innovative business strategy.
🎧 Why You Should Listen to Beyond Reality Episode 4
The future of immersive tech is bright and multifaceted. As AI and Web3 technologies continue to advance rapidly, XR is becoming increasingly integrated into daily life and work. Julia highlights how success in this space requires bridging multiple worlds: technical, creative, business, and human.
“You don’t have to be a coder to be part of this future”, she says. “Understanding tech enough to communicate its value and possibilities is just as important”.
As XR expands into industries such as healthcare, education, marketing, and entertainment, roles involving technology will also diversify. From designers and marketers to strategists and storytellers, many paths lead into this exciting world.
Julia’s journey embodies this evolution: a reminder that technology adoption is a team sport, and there’s a place for everyone willing to learn and engage.
